Add a text watermark to a PDF

Place a diagonal text mark across every page to show document status, ownership or intended distribution.

Place vector text across every page

The watermark is written as vector text diagonally across the centre of every page. A translucent slate colour keeps the mark visible over light and busy page areas while leaving underlying content readable.

Its text size adapts to the entered length so both a short status such as DRAFT and a longer distribution note span the page. Vector text remains sharp when the PDF is zoomed or printed.

The same wording and styling are applied to every page; per-page text, placement, colour or opacity are not configured by this focused tool. Review both light and dark source pages before sharing.

Use up to 80 characters

Watermark text can contain up to 80 characters. Keep it short enough to read across the page and place detailed instructions in the document body or accompanying message instead.

The tool embeds a typeface for supported scripts, including Turkish, Arabic and Chinese text. Review accents, right-to-left text and less common characters in the exported PDF before distribution.

Write a clear status or ownership mark

Status marks such as DRAFT, SAMPLE, VOID or NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION distinguish a working copy from a final document. Ownership marks can name the organisation or author responsible for the file.

A recipient-specific mark can include the intended organisation and date, such as Prepared for Acme Ltd, March 2026. Confirm names and dates before export because the same text is applied to every page.

Understand what a watermark can do

A watermark communicates status or attribution and remains visible in ordinary screenshots and printouts. It does not control access to the PDF, and a person with editing tools may be able to remove it.

Use password protection when the unopened file needs access control. Use redaction when information must be removed from the shared copy rather than covered by a visible mark.

Watermarking runs in this browser without sending the selected PDF to a document-processing server. Export creates a separate file and leaves the source document unchanged.

Questions
How is the watermark placed?

The text is drawn diagonally across the centre of all pages with low opacity and an adaptive size.

Can a watermark prevent copying?

No. It communicates status or ownership but does not control access to the PDF.

What happens to the source PDF?

The watermark is added to a new copy, and the source PDF remains unchanged.

How should access or sensitive content be handled?

Use password protection to control opening the file and redaction to remove content from the shared copy.
