Convert a PDF to Word

Choose Editable Word for text you need to change, or Keep page appearance when the original layout matters more.

Editable Word

Editable mode reads text and page layout, detects multi-column regions and places the extracted wording into Word paragraphs in reading order. The resulting paragraphs can be rewritten, restyled and reflowed in a DOCX editor.

When a page has no embedded text, local recognition detects the document language and adds the recognised words to the editable output. A page with no legible recovered text is retained as an image instead of being omitted.

Keep page appearance

Keep-layout mode places each PDF page into Word as a visual page. It is intended for signed forms, designed brochures, certificates and other documents where the visible composition must remain together.

The page can be placed consistently in a DOCX, but its contents do not become freely reflowing Word paragraphs. Select editable mode when continued text editing is the main requirement.

Choose the right mode

Editable mode is intended for reports, letters, contracts, books and other documents built mainly from readable text. Check columns, lists, headings and page breaks after conversion before relying on the new structure.

Dense tables, magazine layouts, graphic design and text wrapped around images may lose composition when converted into flowing paragraphs. Use keep-layout mode when those page relationships are more important than direct text editing.

Test one representative page before converting a long document. A clean report may reflow well; a designed page with overlapping objects will usually need Keep page appearance.

Check the result

A conversion can process up to 120 pages at a time. The DOCX is built and checked before download, and the resulting file can be opened in Microsoft Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice.

Both conversion modes and the OCR pass for scanned pages run in this browser. The selected PDF is not uploaded to a document-processing server, and the source file remains unchanged on disk.

Open the downloaded DOCX and compare it with the PDF. Check reading order, recognised words, tables, images and any page where layout is important before continuing to edit or share it. Keep the source until that review is complete.

Questions
Which Word mode should I choose?

Choose Editable Word when text needs continued editing. Choose Keep page appearance when the visible PDF layout matters more than reflow.

What remains editable in Word?

Editable Word reconstructs text, reading order, columns and supported tables as Word content. Check the result in your word processor before revising it.

How does Keep page appearance work?

It places a rendered image of each PDF page in a matching Word section. The page appearance is retained, but its contents are not freely editable.

How are scanned PDFs converted?

Scan-only pages use OCR in this browser. Review recognised text in Word, especially when the source is faint, handwritten or unusually arranged.
